Quintrell Downs CC’s Historic Homecoming: First Match on Colan Recreation Field in 20 Years

Wednesday 5th August 2026 marked a special occasion for Quintrell Downs Cricket Club as they returned to Colan Recreation Field in Quintrell Downs, Newquay, for their first match on the pitch in two decades. I was able to photograph the event, At the invitation of club manager Mike Brothers, the team faced Pencarrow CC in a memorable fixture that brought players and supporters together on home soil once again.

The day captured the spirit of village cricket — from the full team lined up proudly in their matching kit under a bright Cornish sky, to the action on the field as batters and bowlers competed with energy and determination. After twenty years away, it was a true homecoming for Quintrell Downs CC scoring 145 and bowled them out for 80, a proud moment for the club’s future on this historic ground.
